Packing list for warm weather travel

Adoration 4 Adventure’s packing list recommendations for warm weather travel, for both females and males, to fit into one carry-on suitcase per person.

My packing list was for 9 weeks of backpacking in Central America, however the list could be used for other destinations. The clothing packed was multi-purpose to cover different activities from beach days to hiking. In total there is enough for 14 days of wear without washing.

My backpack of choice is the Osprey Porter Travel Backpack Bag, Black, 46-Liter. I am able to fit all of these items into this carry-on size bag (one per person).

Packing tips for Osprey Porter 46L:

  1. Roll smaller items and store vertically inside pockets first (e.g. tank tops, shorts or men’s briefs)
  2. Place heavier items like shoes at the bottom of the bag
  3. Lay any items that need to stay flat on the bottom of the bag (e.g. shorts that don’t roll well)
  4. Put a larger item (e.g. travel towel or toiletry bag) at the very front of the bag where it is curved.
  5. Fill up space in between with larger items. Roll clothes first before placing in the bag.
  6. Place any other flat or bigger items that don’t roll on top
  7. Store your laptop in the back pocket.
  8. Put any smaller items that you need easy access to in the front pockets.

Adoration 4 Adventure’s product review of the adidas Terrex Agravic GTX Women’s Shoes and Climaheat Frost Hooded Jacket.

Do you enjoy hiking but hate getting wet and cold during the cooler months? Just because it’s winter or the rainy season, doesn’t mean that you should have to miss out going for a vigorous hike or long seaside stroll. In fact, some of the best walks can be in the worst kinds of weather!

Here in the north of Spain, we get wet winters however I have figured out a way not to let that spoil my fun. Thanks to the help of adidas, I am now prepared with a pair of Terrex Agravic GTX Women’s Shoes and Climaheat Frost Hooded Jacket.

Here is my review of these great adidas products!

adidas Terrex Agravic GTX Women’s Shoes

I love the outdoors. Whether it’s hiking in the forest, walking along the beach or pounding the pavement, it is so important to be supported by a good pair of shoes. The adidas Terrex Agravic GTX are specifically made for trail running but are so flexible that can be used for almost any kind of outdoor activity.

The adidas Terrex Agravic GTX Women’s Shoes have the following benefits:

  • GORE-TEX® – lining for dry feet even when it’s wet out.
  • Continental® – rubber tread sole for even better traction.
  • Boost™ – providing innovative cushioning technology with a combination of softness and responsiveness to improve your running experience.

I have been testing these puppies out for over a month and couldn’t be happier with them. The fit was perfect for my whole foot – not any easy task when you have a unusual size of US 8.5. In the beginning, the material felt firm around the sides but after the first use it stretched out and now feels like I am walking on clouds.

These shoes are so stylish and have gotten me numerous amounts of compliments since I first got them. They are also lightweight with great grip for when you go off road. I wear my adidas Terrex Agravic GTX Women’s Shoes daily to go for my hour power walk on a concrete pavement, as well as using them for when I go to the beach to walk the dog and during hikes. Even in the wet conditions, my feet always stay snug and dry.

Adidas Climaheat Frost Hooded Jacket

Living on the coast can bring in some sudden and freezing chills, even when the sun is out. I never have to worry that I will be caught out by a change of weather or gust of wind while I am wearing my adidas Climaheat Frost Hooded Jacket.

The jacket is made of 80/20 RDS certified goose down and built to keep the warm air in and the cold air out. There are heat seals around the cuffs of the sleeve and neck, as well as padded pockets to keep your hands warm. The Climaheat™ technology traps heat inside the jacket and helps it dry out faster if the outside gets wet.

Adidas Climaheat Frost Hooded Jacket Front

One of my favorite features, besides the jacket being amazingly warm and water resistant, is the hidden inside pocket. I use this to hold my keys for when I am going for a long walk, instead of taking a bag with me. I’ve also worn this jacket for a night and the pockets have been large enough for me to store my phone, lip balm, and money so I don’t need to drag around a bag while I am bar hopping.

The adidas Climaheat Frost Hooded Jacket has a deep adjustable hood with a small visor to provide even more protection for your face against the wind and rain.

Packing list for cold weather travel

Adoration 4 Adventure’s packing list recommendations for cold weather travel, for both females and males, to fit into one carry-on suitcase per person.

If you are like me, the idea of packing for a “cold-weather” trip can be overwhelming! It’s hard to know how many layers to take. Quite often people overpack not considering the fact that as the weather is cold and you are wearing layers, items can be worn multiple times.

Well, now I have done all the hard work for you. Last November I visited Alaska for the first time and tested at this packing list. It was during their fall season, with snow and temperatures as low as -17C (0F).

So here is my recommended packing list for cold weather with enough clothing to last a minimum 6 days of wear without washing.

Travel essentials: Berghaus Women’s Scafell Stretch Hydrodown Jacket

Adoration 4 Adventure’s product review of the Berghaus Women’s Scafell Stretch Hydrodown Jacket.

As an Australian girl and Brisbane local, I was not prepared for the chilly winters in Europe. In fact, I was surprised to find that it in some cities it became cold as early as October. I had actually arrived here without any jacket at all, wanting to gauge the change of seasons in my new home base and do a little research before investing in Winter gear.

Luckily, I came across the Women’s Scafell Stretch Hydrodown Jacket by Berghaus which saved me from the winter winds and chilly rains. In addition to being water resistant, it is also has a “lifetime guarantee” (see details below) and is made to be kinder to the planet.

Berghaus Women’s Scafell Stretch Hydrodown Jacket

I ordered the Berghaus Women’s Scafell Stretch Hydrodown Jacket online and was pleasantly surprised to find that it arrived from the UK to Spain in a matter of days (the quoted turn around time was one week). Getting my package in the mail was a nice gift and I excitedly tore upon the box to reveal my new jacket.

I have had the jacket for a month now, giving it a good test and even taking it with me on my travels. While in Barcelona, this was the only jacket that I had. It was actually really perfect, as the days were a pleasant 16C (60F) but would drop down with the wind and in the evenings. During the day, I would have the jacket with me and if it was warm, could easily stash it in my bag without it taking up too much space.

As I always pack light, I appreciate that the Berghaus Women’s Scafell Stretch Hydrodown Jacket can be rolled up for packing for storage in small spaces. This is due to the side stretch panels which create a more streamlined look and stop you from looking too “puffy”. It is also super light, weighing as little as 409 grams. Despite being light-weight, it really does keep you warm and even has padded front pockets for your hands.

What is Hydrodown?

Berghaus Hydrodown is made to be water-resistant and to keep you warm in the wet for up to 16 hours. I tested it out here, in the north of Spain where we have sudden unexpected rain and frigid winds. On at least once occasion, I have been walking along with my friends, wearing the Berghaus Women’s Scafell Stretch Hydrodown Jacket, when it started raining suddenly. I quickly pulled my hood over my head, zipped the jacket up to the top of my neck and placed my hands inside the front hand-warming pockets. Despite the fact that it was raining, I really did feel snug and secure.

Once I arrived back home, I felt the Berghaus Women’s Scafell Stretch Hydrodown Jacket and noticed that is barely wet at all. Due to the Hydrodown, it also dries very quickly.

Travel Essentials: Scrubba Wash and Dry Kit

Travel Essentials: Scrubba Wash and Dry Kit

Adoration 4 Adventure’s product review of the Scrubba Wash and Dry Kit by A4A guest writer, Darrell Whaley.

The Scrubba Wash and Dry Kit

Everyone loves the feel of nice clean clothes, however when you’re traveling the world, hiking a long trek, or camping for an extended period of time, it can be hard to get this feeling. When preparing for our low budget trip to Central America, we came across Scrubba Wash and Dry Kit, a unique and easy way to wash clothes on the go and save some extra money.

For more travel gear recommendations, check out my packing lists for warm weather and cold weather.

What is it?

The Scrubba wash bag is essentially a dry sack with a washboard inside of it. It actually can serve two completely different purposes, washing clothes on the go AND keeping your electronics and spare clothes dry on a float trip, snorkeling excursion, or kayaking adventure. When laid out flat, the Scrubba wash bag measures 21.3 x 12.6 inches and can be rolled and clipped down to 6.3 x 2.4 x 2.4 inches, taking up minimal space and weight (5oz) in your bag.

Scrubba Wash Bag and Travel Towel

How does it work?

The entire process for using the Scrubba wash bag takes 6 simple steps.

1. Fill: Fill up the bag with water, detergent, and of course the dirty clothes. The bag has a window to view the cleaning process and line indicators on how much water you should be adding per the amount of clothing being washed. How easy is that?!

2. Roll and Clip: Squeeze out some of the extra air that the bag gathered, then tightly roll the bag downwards from the top. Scrubba recommends rolling at least 4-5 times to prevent any water or air leakage, but I’ve found 6-7 times works best to not allow any water leaks.

Darrell rolling and clipping the Scrubba

3. Deflate: There will be some extra air in the bag, and in knowing this, Scrubba placed a valve to squeeze out the remaining excess air and use the inner washboard to its full potential.

4. Rub: Now comes washing! At this point, you want to press down and rub the clothes against the washboard part of the bag. Doing this for 30 seconds gives it a quick rinse, while spending about 3 minutes in total will give a wash almost like you had it in a washing machine.

Darrell using the washboard feature.

5. Rinse: Thanks to the bag’s window, you’ll be able to see just for yourself how dirty the water has become. It’s time to unroll the bag, pour out the dirty water and rinse the clothes with fresh water.

6. Dry: After rinsing the clothes inside the bag or under a shower, the final step has arrived. Of course you could always take the clothes and wring out all the water in them, but Scrubba has an alternative option even for drying clothes, which comes as a part of the Scrubba Wash and Dry Kit. This includes an incredibly quick drying and absorbent towel that can help dry clothes even quicker once the clothes have been wrapped and pressed in the towel. Once the towel has soaked up the water from the clothes, leave them to hang on a line for a little while and your chore is complete.Letting our clothes dry.

My thoughts

Whether a trail backpacker or a world traveler, the Scrubba Wash and Dry Kit is a perfect addition for packing less articles of clothing, meaning less weight to carry. The packing cell that stores the complete kit is lightweight and perfectly compact to store in a carry on backpack, holding the wash bag, travel towel, inflatable coat hangers, and even a travel clothes line.

The Scrubba Wash and Dry Kit unpacked

When using the bag in multiple settings, we had a couple of minor issues that were easily resolved. First, as was previously mentioned, Scrubba recommends rolling the bag approximately 4-5 times from the top. We tried this method and found it still leaked out air when used as a dry sack, and water when washing clothes. This was quickly resolved by rolling the bag 6-7 times. Second, the travel clothes line and its hooks are very sturdy and able to stretch a good distance, however the suction cups on each end of the line did not hold their own weight. Wrapping the line around a sturdy object, with the hooks keeping the loop together, can resolve this.

All in all, the Scrubba Wash and Dry Kit exceeded our expectations and we will be including it in our future travels, both long and short term.

Buy your very own Scrubba or read more about the company at https://thescrubba.com/.
